WHY WE LOVE TICINO
Bordering Italy, Ticino is the southernmost canton of Switzerland. The magical landscape of Ticino is flooded with sunshine around 300 days of the year and offers a Swiss Mediterranean lifestyle. Ticino is famous for its beautiful lakes and sub-tropical climate, with lush vegetation, where palm trees and bamboo grow wild.
Ideally located in the centre of Europe, it is bordering the Lago Maggiore and the Lago di Lugano, but is also conveniently close to Italy and the Italian lakes such as Lago di Como and Lago di Garda and the "fashion city" of Milan with its 3 international airports. The Mediterranean Sea and some of the finest Alpine ski resorts are within easy reach.
Ticino offers a diverse lifestyle with an abundance of facilities. A unique combination of high quality Swiss infrastructures and the Italian flavour of "La Dolce Vita".
LUGANO - The picturesque community of Lugano rims Lago di Lugano and thrives on a lively atmosphere with festivals, markets and unspoiled charm. The famous Via Nassa offers world class shopping with all well known luxury brands. While this marvellous city is known to attract tourists and luminaries, it is also known as a perfect environment to set up first residence. As Switzerland's third largest banking centre, Lugano features an active economy, business centres, an international school (TASIS), a beautiful 18 holes golf course and a regional airport.
LOCARNO - Located on the beautiful Lago Maggiore, Locarno is Switzerland's most sunny city and offers a unique Swiss-Italian flavour. Here one can play on the beach, take a boat trip on the lake and visit the islands or take the cable car to one of the many beautiful spots from where a panoramic view can be enjoyed. The Piazza Grande hosts the momentous Locarno International Film Festival each summer as well as the world famous artists during the Moon and Stars festival. The beautiful old town offers a wide variety of small boutiques and cosy restaurants. The surrounding hills of Locarno display some of Ticino's most prestigious homes.
ASCONA - A former fishing village set in an attractive, sunny bay on the Lago Maggiore. For more than a century famous artist, the Swiss and international jet-set, and industrialists have found their way to Ascona to enjoy relaxing and stylish holidays in some of Switzerland's highest rated luxury hotels. Others have set up their semi-permanent or permanent residence to enjoy the unique all year round lifestyle. The charming old village centre, with its unique small alleys that offer a wide variety of boutiques and fine art galleries, leads directly to the Piazza on the lakeside promenade. A yearly jazz festival (www.jazzascona.ch) creates excitement in this hamlet on the shores of Lago Maggiore. Ascona is also home to 2 of Switzerland's finest parkland golf courses.
